Jun 1, My amazing detox discovery

I've been researching detox baths to find out more information for the Detox Bath section of the website. I had heard about something called a "friction sitz bath" which was developed about 100 years ago by a natural healer named Louis Kuhne. I had studied sitz baths when I was in massage therapy school and was impressed at their simplicity: just sitting in a small tub or bidet with warm running water circulating around the pelvis - stimulates circulation and helps relieve lower limb pain, constipation, digestive problems, menstrual discomfort and general pelvic complaints. With the friction sitz bath, all you do is sit in the bath and rub your pelvic area in a specific motion with a washcloth. It sounded so easy. So I bought the Detox Bath e-book that explained the friction sitz bath method in detail and I thought it was an excellent book. It thoroughly covers detox bathing and how it can help you relieve bowel congestion, constipation, leg pain, even get rid of fat and cellulite! I highly recommend the Detox Bath e-book. It is a comprehensive guide on natural body detox in general too.

May 1, Dr. Bronner's Sues Makers of False "Organic" Brands

I know that in recent months the FDA has loosened the definition of the word "organic" so that the major agricultural and food companies could label many foods as organic that would not have met the previous standards. Now when I see many foods labeled "organic" in large supermarkets I am instantly suspicious.

So I was delighted to read that Dr. Bronner's, maker of many wonderful, and truly "organic" personal care products such as soaps, shampoos and body washes,
has filed suit in the California Superior Court against manufacturers who have been labeling their personal care products as "organic" when such products actually contain many synthetic, and even harmful, chemicals. I was in fact shocked, and disappointed, to note the following companies who are defendants in the suit:

Jason "Pure, Natural and Organic," who include the toxic and allergenic Sodium Myreth Sulfate in their soaps and body washes;

Avalon "Organics" whose soap and shampoo products contain the synthetic compound Cocamidopropyl Betaine combined with the petrochemical Amdiopropyl Betaine;

Nature's Gate "Organics" whose main cleansers contain Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, an allergenic and toxic compound;

and a list of other companies who are using the "Organic" brand to sell products whose synthetic chemical components are clearly not pure and organic as claimed.

I applaud Dr. Bronner's efforts in trying to keep the "organic" description as pure and clean as the products it is intended to describe. I hope the suit will help protect the term "organic" so it does not go the way of that promising but much abused earlier description "all natural."

Apr 23, The Master Cleanse Diet

The Master Cleanse Diet was created by Stanley Burroughs in the early 1940s. It is also called the "lemonade diet." Since our website contains some information about detoxing with lemons we decided to research the Master Cleanse Diet to see what it's all about.

The diet mainly consists of a lemonade drink made with pure squeezed lemon juice and Grade B organic maple syrup. The diet also includes cayenne pepper, sea salt, psyllium husk, laxative tea and wheat grass which are taken at various intervals throughout the day to increase bowel eliminations, which is the desired result of any cleanse. The use of hoodia gordonii extract is also permitted for those wishing to increase their weight loss on this diet, although this herb is an optional ingredient.

The appeal of this cleanse is that it is versatile. You can do it for three to ten days, or longer once you get used to it. Or, you can just take the lemonade drink once a day in place of a meal, while eating sensibly for the other two daily meals. It provides both body cleansing and weight loss. The versatility is very good for people who want to break in any detox or weight loss program before committing to it whole hog. (no offense intended :))

The downside appears to be the fact that you can get incredibly hungry on this cleanse, which does not happen with every cleanse depending on the food allowances. The cleanse also sounds like it would be quite challenging for a newcomer to get through more than the first three days. People who are unaccustomed to cleanses probably would do well to start out with a couple of days to try it out. Or to just substitute one meal a day with the lemonade drink at first. Another factor is that newcomers generally tend to get unpleasant detox symptoms, which can range from headache to cramps to nausea, and these symptoms effectively discourage many people from going further with their detox cleanses. However, that shortcoming is a reality for any detox program and not just the Master Cleanse. I have gotten a nasty headache every single time I have done a cleanse, and I have done many cleanses!
It's just my body's way of telling me that I had some stuff to clear out. So while a cleanse may be challenging, its rewards far outweigh any temporary discomforts.

Now that we have completed our research, the Master Cleanse Diet sounds like a winner to us. So we are offering Master Cleanse Diet information for those of you who are interested and willing to try it. If you're not sure, e-mail me with any questions using the Contact button at left.

OK now it's time to go to the organic food store to shop for my Purification Program 21-day cleanse. More on that soon!

Apr 12, "20/20" Program Was Nearsighted

I'm not a fan of 20/20 or John Stossel, but I was fortunate (?) to view last night's defamation of the detox pads. Stossel took a very superficial look at the detox pad phenomenon and pronounced it a scam. Why am I not surprised? I don't expect the corporate-controlled media to favorably view an unusual alternative product like detox pads. And the pads they chose to examine, Kinoki, are among the cheapest on the market. I have learned that you get what you pay for as far as the pads are concerned, so of course, 20/20 chose only to examine Kinoki and not other, more reputable brands. Anyway, I found the reporting to be biased from the outcome - Stossel could not contain his disdain for "toxins in your body?" Clearly he had not really researched anything to do with body detoxification.
And of course he chose a group of people who had nothing positive to say about their experience with detox pads. Eith most alternative products or therapies you may expect about 70-80 of people to respond well. Stossel obviously picked only from the 20-30 who don't.

Anyway, I wouldn't expect the media to favorably review the detox pad phenomenon, but I have to tell them that barring some fantastic manipulation by the FDA, the detox pads will be here to stay. Just the interest generated by the commercials for cheap Kinoki pads is testament enough to that.

Mar 20, My 10-Day Cleanse Postponed - by my dentist!

I started a 10-day cleanse using the Perfect Cleanse program. This looks to be a very easy cleanse: you take supplements before dinner, and then drink a mixture after dinner, and then take three supplements before going to bed. You should be eating light and healthy during this time, and drinking plenty of water, but aside from that there are no severe restrictions.

On the fourth day I had an intenseive root canal procedure, and the dentist put me on antibiotics for a week afterward. I had read in the instructions that medication should not be taken around the same time as the nighttime supplements.

However, ALL of the items on this cleanse are taken at nighttime! The cleanse works while you sleep .. just like detox foot pads do .. :-)). So rather than mess anything up, I just discontinued the cleanse and will resume it next week when the antibiotics run out. That will be a great time to do it because I'm not crazy about taking antibiotics and will want to cleanse after them anyway.

This felt like a nice natural cleanse with no side effects. I did notice that I had to get up at night to pee, which is a good sign that the program was working.

I'll let you know how the full 10-day Perfect Cleanse program works out.
