Soothe your aching body with home body wraps

It can be fun to create your own body cleanse program in the privacy of your own home. Home body wraps are easy, effective, and require only a little planning and preparation in advance. And they don't cost a lot, either! Here are some ideas for creating your own body wraps. Many ingredients, like the Epsom salts, can be found at your local drugstore. Other ingredients, like the bentonite and clay preparations, can be found online at the websites we recommend below.

Epsom salts body wraps

All you need is a box of Epsom salts and a clean sheet of pure cotton (a cotton bedsheet or towel will do) or a strip of clean cotton flannel, and a sink, bucket or bathtub to soak the cloth in.

This wrap is best for sore aching muscles, strains, sprains, or general fatigue and body discomfort.

In a sink, tub or pail, add one gallon of warm water. Make it a little hotter than the temperature you prefer, because the water may cool off a bit as you are preparing the wrap.

Add two cupfuls of Epsom salts and dissolve. The ratio is one gallon of water per two cupfuls of salts; you can make more than a gallon if neccessary.

Dip the towel or sheet into the water, wring out and then apply to the affected area like a compress. If the sore area is a leg, foot, arm, etc., just wrap the cloth completely around the limb. When the compress becomes cool, soak and apply again as needed. Apply once or twice a day until you get relief.

Home body wraps with clay

facial mask, clay mask

Use the healing and drawing power of natural clay to remove toxins and accumulated waste from your skin cells. For a simple clay wrap, just get a pound of green clay -- montmorillonite will do nicely -- and mix the clay with warm water in a basin or tub.

Soak a cotton or flannel sheet into the muddy mix, wring, and wrap it around an ailing joint or limb. These clay wraps are most effective for:

  • Headaches: Just apply the clay pack first to the nape of the neck, then wring out, soak again, and apply to forehead
  • Sore muscles: Apply the packed-up mud in a ball, or soak it in the cloth and then wrap around a knee, ankle, elbow, or whatever area ails you. For the back, apply a clay pack directly onto sore muscles.
  • Make a refreshing facial mask by applying the green clay directly on the face (avoiding direct contact with eyes). Apply cucumber slices to eyelids if you wish. Relax for 20-30 minutes. You'll be amazed at how the clay draws the skin and tightens it all around. It will remove skin waste and give you a rejuvenated, youthful feeling too.
