Detox Herbal Tea
A cup of a refreshing detox herbal tea is a refreshing and easy way to introduce cleansing herbs into your diet. You can find many varieties of herbal teas in whole foods and health food stores and many of them will even state "detox" or "cleanse" on the package. Here are a few important tips in selecting a healthy natural tea: - Choose only loose or bulk tea.
Teas packaged in teabags may contain chemical residue from the processing of the teabag paper. If the package indicates that the paper is unbleached and untreated paper, then you can use those teabags. But in general, the freshest and most potent herbal teas are those from the freshly ground and packed herb. So stay with loose bulk tea! Why drink detox tea packed in chemically-treated paper -- it contradicts the entire purpose of a truly natural detox.
- Get a tea ball, or a small spoon-shaped tea infuser.
Pack the loose herbs into it and then steep them in boiling water. And if you don't want stray flakes of herbs floating in your tea, you'll need a tea strainer as well, although it certainly doesn't hurt to drink a few flakes of herbs! You can get the tea ball and infuser right near the tea display in your health food store. Follow the directions on the tea package for how to prepare the tea. Most teas require two to five minutes of steeping in boiling or hot water for maximum taste and effectiveness and the package should give specific instructions for this.
Look for a detox herbal tea to contain one or more of the following: - Cascara sagrada (this is a strong intestinal cleanser;
do not use in excess) - or combinations of these herbs with other herbs
such as alfalfa, chamomile or ginseng
