Detox bath

The detox bath has been valued by many cultures from the beginning of recorded history, and it was considered a purification ritual, not just a bath. The physical and spiritual importance of body cleansing is well documented in the Bible.

Ancient civilizations, including the Hebrews, the Essenes and the Romans, regarded cleansing as essential to both spiritual and physical well-being. During the Roman Empire, wealthy Romans built elaborate bathing areas where cleansing and purification were practiced on a regular basis, which included the use of essential oils, plant extracts, massage, and steam baths. What was once considered as mandatory to health thousands of years ago is now the basis for many of today's very luxurious and exclusive spas and resorts!

In addition to our normal everyday hygiene, simple bathing in water affords many benefits. It invigorates and increases blood circulation, cleanses the skin, relaxes the body, and dilates the pores so that toxins may be excreted. And one cannot ignore the relaxing benefits of a refreshing soak in a hot tub or jacuzzi!

The sitz bath

The sitz bath has long been used as an effective therapeutic bath. It involves sitting in a basin in which only the pelvic area is submerged under water. This requires a basin in which the pelvis can be submerged with the legs extending comfortably outside the basin. The sitz bath is used for chronic hemorrhoids, constipation, lower bowel congestion, poor lower limb circulation, leg pain, hip pain, IBS, distress in the reproductive organs, and circulatory disorders affecting the bowel, hips or lower limbs. Bathing is done in warm water, and often accompanied by a brisk massage or rubbing motion with a washcloth to stimulate the circulation.

A very popular form of sitz bath was developed by Louis Kuhne at the end of the 1800s, called the "friction sitz bath." Kuhne used natural healing remedies in his practice and the friction sitz bath helped a great number of his patients.

The friction sitz bath can be easily done by anyone today who has a bath basin as described above, or a bidet. This bath can be done a few times a week for health maintenance or twice a day for those wishing to get relief from toxic lower bowel syndromes such as constipation, bowel congestion, indigestion, IBS, sluggish circulation, hip pain, lower limb pain, and general circulatory problems.

This bath works because of the use of cold water, a powerful healing agent, which is used with friction massage over the lower pelvic area. The vigorous massage restores the circulation and the lower bowel is stimulated to release toxic matter which accumulates in the colon.

The Detox Bath e-book contains a great deal of helpful information and instructions about how to use the friction sitz bath. It is an invaluable reference for all those wishing to incorporate detox bathing into their health regimen. Note: Sitting in hot water can be draining on the body, so is best done before bedtime. Also, as healthy as cleansing baths and soaks are, they should not be overdone. A couple of times a week will do in most cases. Information presented here is not intended to take the place of medical treatment.
